Tweedsmuir - "sometime in the years between 1880-90, John S Shaw at the age of 16 bought the farm and moved, with his mother and 5 sisters - Elizabeth, Charlotte, Maggie, Jean and Annie. Their father, William Shaw, had moved from Ireland and bought the farm around the corner, now the 9th of Arthur, owned by Matthew Shaw in 1882. The girls took up different occupations, and with the death of his fathers, John S was left to carry on to the best of his ability.
