Notes - Mary Violet McCrea was born in Madoc Twp on February 25, 1878. She joined three older siblings, Lizzie, Jack and Lottie. Within twelve years, 5 more siblings were born - the youngest, James Golden (Goldie) in 1890.
- Mary married Robert Gavin in 1898. They lived in Livingstone Creek, farming next door to Bob’s father William Gavin, and not far from the McCrea place.
- In 1905, 2 years after the birth of their 3rd child, tragedy struck when Bob was struck on the head by a tree limb while working in the bush. He died very soon after. By 1911, the census shows Mary living back in the McCrea homestead with her widowed father William, now 68 and paralyzed. Also there were her siblings Bill, Hattie and Goldie, and her own three children aged 12, 10 and 7.
- In 1921, with her children grown and living on their own, Mary acquired a second family when she married Robert Adam Elliott. Robert, a widower, had 4 children from his first marriage - 2 boys aged 20 and 13, and 2 girls aged 12 and 6.
The youngest boy would grow up and eventually marry Mary's youngest sister, Hattie, in 1933.
