  Father is John; in 1881 court case (reported in Sligo newspaper) it is stated that Matthew's father died in 1867 Also in this court case, Matthew states that he went to 'America' in 1856 and that he and an uncle that lived there sent money home to his father. He does not say when he returned to Ballymote, Sligo, Ireland
